If you have an expensive bike and you will no doubt want to look after it. Looking after it doesn't just extend to having a regular maintenance schedule and giving it a good clean when you come in from a ride on wet roads and muddy trails. Having somewhere specific to store your bike is one of the best things that you can do to ensure its longevity. Storing your bicycle against a wall or in a shed where there is other gardening equipment is a sure-fire way of getting scratched or damaged. If you've got carbon fibre bike then these frames are remarkably easy to damage in terms of their abrasion resistance. A well-placed smack with a spade or gardening fork could easily do thousands of pounds worth of damage - so you really should look at a specialised bicycle storage solution.

There are a number of solutions on the market and any you will be able to judge which one is best for your circumstances. Types of bike storage can be broken down into three main sorts, and these are; wall mounted bike storage, ceiling mounted bike storage and a dedicated bicycle storage shed. None of these is better than the other, they all have their advantages and disadvantages and some just simply won't be practical for your situation.

The big advantage of your bike on the wall or ceiling is it you can use all of floor space beneath it. So, if you have a garage where you like to keep a car or other equipment then you'll still be able to do so, safe in the knowledge that your bike is stored out of harms way. Although the ceiling storage systems for bicycles looks a little bit fragile they are in fact one of the best types of storage available if you have high ceilings. However, a wall mounted bike storage does have the advantage of -if it is strong enough - that you can use it for carrying out maintenance on your bike and then you would have no need to buy a bike stand.

If you have the space, the ultimate in bicycle storage is a dedicated storage shed. A dedicated shed will allow you to keep all of your cycling accessories together in one place along with tools, lubricants, spare wheels and all the other sundries that come along with cycling. Having a shed that is just dedicated to your bike where there will be no obstructions in getting out your bike will have the consequence of you going out on your bike much more.
